Ah, La Grande Madama Diana Damrau. Fresh from her role debut as Maria Stuarda in Zürich, she brought this iconic queen to Berlin accompanied by some equally wonderful singing actors. I know I should have mentioned this in the review, but I’ll say it anyway. I am anticipating the day she adds Anna Bolena and especially the Roberto Devereux Elisabetta I, as she will definitely knock these roles right out of the park. Enjoy the review and let me know your opinions as well.
Two fabulous and versatile sopranos playing two historical British queens, one who is the pristine, pure-toned, and elegant lyric-dramatic coloratura soprano Marlis Petersen as Maria Stuarda of Scots and the other who is the alluring, noble, and gorgeous spinto soprano Alexandra Deshorties as Elisabetta I of England. These two divas join forces under the Theater an der Wien’s majestic roof. Enjoy the review and let me know your opinions as well.
The sparks fly with two grand bel canto divas as the rivaling queens, Maria Stuarda and Elisabetta I.
